Stucco Patching and Small Repairs in Winnipeg
Holes from removed fixtures, impact damage and previous patches that never blended, put right at the size they actually are.
Not every stucco problem is a wall-sized problem. Winnipeg Stucco Works does small repairs and patches across Winnipeg, and we take them seriously because a small opening in a wall does not stay small through a Winnipeg winter.
The Small Jobs That Come Up Most
Removed fixtures leave the most holes. Satellite dishes, old light fixtures, disused vents, retired mounting brackets. Each fastener went through the stucco and frequently through the moisture barrier behind it.
Impact damage is next. A ladder foot, a mower throwing gravel, a vehicle in a tight driveway. Corners take the worst of it, and corners are also where stucco is thinnest.
Then there are earlier patches that never blended. Often the material was wrong, or the texture was smoothed flat against a floated wall, and now it is a visible rectangle.
Why Small Holes Are Worth Fixing Now
An open hole in a stucco wall is a direct path for water into the assembly. Water enters, freezes, expands, and works the opening larger. A hole the size of a bolt becomes a spalled patch the size of a hand over a few seasons.
If the moisture barrier was punctured, water is not just in the stucco, it is behind it, against sheathing. That is how a fifteen-minute repair becomes a section rebuild.
Making a Patch Disappear
The technique is the same as any repair, just smaller. The damage gets cut back to sound material with keyed edges rather than filled as found, because a patch pressed into a smooth-sided hole has almost nothing to hold. It is built in coats, not packed in one pass. Then the texture is worked to match the wall around it.
Texture matching is where patches succeed or fail visually. A sand-float wall, a dash finish and a knockdown all need different handling, and the objective is that you stop being able to find the repair.
For widespread cracking see stucco crack repair, and for larger failed sections stucco repair.

Stucco Patching & Small Repairs Questions
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes. A patch around a removed satellite mount or a single damaged corner is a normal call for us. Small work still has to be done properly to disappear, and we would rather do it than have it turn into a bigger repair when water gets into the hole over a winter.
My last patch is a different colour. Can that be fixed?
Usually. A mismatched patch is generally either the wrong texture, the wrong material, or a colour that was matched to the wall as it looked when new rather than as it looks now. Redoing it properly and then coating the elevation gives the most reliable result on a weathered wall.
What about the holes left when a satellite dish comes down?
Those matter more than they look. Every mounting bolt is a hole through the stucco and often through the moisture barrier behind it, on a wall facing the weather. They should be sealed at the barrier and patched at the surface, not just filled.
Is a patch permanent?
Done correctly, yes. The failure mode of a patch is bonding, which comes from filling a hole instead of cutting it back and keying the edges. If the substrate is sound and the repair is keyed and built in coats, it lasts like the rest of the wall.
